Rolling storage was removed from the heart of the main library area, increased areas for group study and silent study were created. In addition to this a dedicated entrance was formed to enable 24 hour access. This meant that new toilet facilities had to be provided and escape routes had to be carefully considered. New windows improved the efficiency of the heated spaces. Life was injected into this previously cluttered and out of date facility. The results were aided by the fact that the library was in essence a series of well lit and attractive spaces.
